Library Policies       (All of our policies are subject to change without notice)

Library materials may be used within the library by the general public.  Anyone wishing to borrow materials must have a valid Coplay Public Library card and present it at the circulation desk.  We apologize, but we cannot check out materials if you forgot your card.

Library cards, valid for one year, are issued free to residents of the Whitehall-Coplay School District. Identification that includes name and current address must be shown prior to receiving a card. Applicants under the age of
eighteen (18) must have their registration cards signed by a parent or guardian, agreeing to be responsible for any fines and materials borrowed.  Minors agree to share borrowing information with parents/guardian as a condition of applying for a card.

Please consider providing us with an email address when applying for a library card if you wish to receive courtesy reminders for overdue items.

A resident of any community with a library participating in the Pennsylvania Access program will be eligible to receive a card at the Coplay Public Library upon presentation of a valid borrower’s card bearing an ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA sticker from his/her “home” library along with a valid id showing current address.

If you are unsure of where your home library is, check here:

SERVICE AREAS

Nonresident cards are available for $30 per person per year.

Applying and signing for a library card indicates acceptance of all policies of the Coplay Public Library.

Library cards will not be renewed for patrons with outstanding debts. Lost library cards should be reported. Replacement cards are $2.00.

Loans & Renewals

First time Coplay Public Library card holders may borrow up to three items. After those three items are returned, we do not limit the number of materials checked out, with the exception of Videos. Patrons may only have seven Videos out at one time. In addition, only two of these may be "dotted” Videos, to ensure that all patrons have fair access to our newer video material.

Videos are loaned for one (1) week and cannot be renewed. All other library materials are loaned for three (3) weeks.

FINES
$1.00 per day for all overdue VHS and DVD.
.20 per day for all other materials.

No fines will exceed the replacement cost of the overdue item. Patrons will be charged the replacement cost plus $5.00 processing fee for lost or damaged items.

Inclement weather closings

For any weather related closing information, please check WFMZ on your television, wfmz.com, or call the library at
610-262-7351 often for the most up-to-date information. On WFMZ, we are listed under the Church, Worship, and Library closings Tab. Safety will always be our primary concern, as we have staff and patrons who travel to get to the library.

Changes in conditions may dictate sudden changes to our schedule. Materials due on days with shorter than
normal hours will automatically be due the next full business day.

If you ever have any questions about whether the library is open, please call first. If you are unable to reach the library, or you reach the answering machine, we may be unable to be open for business, so please expect interruptions to service.

Computer and Internet Policies

You must sign in at the circulation desk before using a computer. All computer users must have a borrower's card and your account must be in good standing for you or your family members to use library computers. See a staff member for assistance with your account. Please remember to bring your library card in order to sign in to use computers. See our Policies page regarding requirements for registering for a new account.
Computers may be used for 30 minutes. If no one is on the waiting list, this time may be extended until someone else needs a computer, at the staff's discretion.

Patrons are limited to two (2) computer signups per day or a max of 2 hours, whichever comes first.

Reservations may be made for one (1) hour.  You must call at least one hour in advance to reserve a spot. Please plan on arriving on time. We will not hold a computer reservation for users who are not on time.

Minors are not allowed to sit at the same computer at the same time, for safety and noise concerns.  Filters are enabled on all computers; ask for assistance with access problems. Patrons over 18 years of age may request for the filters to be temporarily disabled.

Black and white printouts from the computer are 0.25 per page.  Color printouts are $1.00.

We can provide only basic computer information/instruction at the discretion of the staff as time permits. Staff will not be responsible for filling out forms, applications, etc., in order to protect your privacy. For more detailed instruction, please refer to the "Computer Classes" links and information under the "Local" links above. There is also a free online computer tutorial for people who are new to computer use at http://tech.tln.lib.mi.us/tutor/. Please ask at the desk for assistance with getting started.
